What we're aiming for

We want this site to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or voice control. We're working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.

What we've done

  • The colour combinations used across the site were measured against the WCAG AA contrast minimum of 4.5:1, and all of them meet or exceed it.
  • Headings step down in order without skipping levels, so screen reader users can navigate by structure.
  • Decorative elements are hidden from screen readers rather than read aloud as noise.
  • Animation is reduced or removed for anyone whose device is set to prefer reduced motion.
  • Every product image has descriptive alternative text rather than a filename.
  • Body text is set at a size and line height chosen for readability rather than density.

Where we know we fall short

Product photography comes from our suppliers, and some of it has text baked into the image. That text can't be read by a screen reader. We're replacing those images as we go.

We haven't yet had the site audited by anyone outside the business, and we haven't tested it with every combination of assistive technology.

Tell us

If something on this site is hard or impossible for you to use, we want to know, and we'll fix it. Get in touch through the contact page and describe what happened and what you were trying to do - including which device, browser or assistive technology you were using, if you know.

Accessibility problems go to the front of the queue. If a page on this site is blocking you from ordering, say so and we will take your order another way rather than make you wait for a fix.
