There is a stage a few days after a bath where the dog smells like a dog again and a full wash is not happening tonight.
Dog smell is not the coat itself. It comes from the oils on the skin and the ordinary bacteria and yeast that live on them, which is why it returns on a schedule and why bathing more often is the wrong answer — stripping the skin makes it produce more oil, not less.
